The Director of Software Development will lead the development of a parametric software environment within third party software such as Rhinoceros and Revit, and with the potential to move the software stack into a web application. The development will focus on advanced computational design strategies, parametric modelling, and automated building information modelling. The successful candidate will provide leadership and vision to the team, and work closely with the architecture, building systems, manufacturing, and business development teams to ensure that the company’s software solutions provide the required functionality to enable the company to reach its advanced design and manufacturing goals. 

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Development of the overarching software architecture and implementation plan
  • Oversee and execute the software development in relation to both the design process and the manufacturing procedures
  • Oversee and execute the development of custom tools built on commercial CAD and BIM applications
  • Work in close collaboration with the design, engineering and manufacturing development

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Architecture, or related areas
  • 5-10 years of software development experience in C# and Python
  • Experience in object-based programming and user interfaces
  • Professional experience with both back-end and front-end programming
  • Experience with CAD and BIM software
  • Experience with Git or Visual Studio
  • An excellent communicator who seeks first to understand, then to be understood
  • Data-focused with an incredible attention to detail
  • Able to handle multiple initiatives while meeting all deadlines
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and high performance that values learning and a commitment to quality

Desired Skills

  • Master’s in Computer Science, Architecture, or related areas
  • Experience with Virtual Construction
  • Experienced in robotic / machine programming
  • Experience in artificial intelligence or machine learning
  • Experience with computational architectural design processes and digital manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of 3D computer graphics and visualization
