We are seeking an experienced Director of People and Talent Development with outstanding people skills to build a strong team aligned with our culture of sustainability and livability. You will assist with management of our personnel, ensuring that our human resources programs and initiatives are effective, efficient, and aligned with overall business objectives. 

Duties for the director of HR will include working with company departments to recruit and retain top talent, supporting employee development, enhancing job satisfaction, organizing retreats and town halls, designing onboarding procedures, implementing HR strategies that support business objectives, forecasting staffing needs, mitigating risk, structuring benefit packages, maintaining employee records, managing budgets, designing performance review mechanisms, and overseeing overall employment needs.

The ideal candidate for this role should possess the capacity to enable an early-stage growth company’s needs for dynamic hiring, helping us grow quickly to full operational capacity this year. You will personally bring a high work ethic, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of BC labor regulations and HR practices, strategic thinking, and strong organizational skills. You will improve HR processes, implement strategies that support business growth, improve morale and employee retention, enhance safety and wellness, strengthen relations between staff and employers, manage job satisfaction, attract the best recruits, and promote the organization's values. In our small organization, you will be flexible to take on other responsibilities as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the overall business. 


Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Recruiting staff in construction trades and architectural, engineering and software professionals
  • Enabling a strong culture for teamwork and collaboration across the varied disciplines
  • Guiding individuals to align their individual goals with company objectives
  • Developing compensation and benefit packages
  • Developing and implementing human resources policies and procedures
  • Working as part of the leadership team to develop and support strategic objectives
  • Managing staff wellness and benefits programs
  • Motivating and growing current staff, including implementation of a performance review process
  • Maintaining staff records
  • Identifying staffing needs and creating job descriptions
  • Designing and directing skill training programs including D&I and management skills
  • Organizing company team building events such as townhalls and retreats

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience hiring qualified professionals locally, nationally and internationally
  • Success in navigating Canadian work visa regulations for international hires
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in human resources management, CPHR BC, or equivalent designation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Superior interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of BC labor laws and regulations
